Q: Can a 2000 Buick Century run on any kind of alternative fuel?
I've been researching some on alternative fuels lately, namely E85 and CNG. And so far, it doesn't look like our 2000 Buick Century will run on any of them. Is this true? And where can I find concrete documentation if it will run on one? Also, any idea of how much conversion for certain alternative fuels might cost for a 2000 Buick Century?

A: @00 Buicks have a great gas engine in them. They are workhorses that mechanics love to get their hands on for other projects. You could do a conversion to propane but that's about your only option.

Q: Is a 1996 Buick Century a good choice to buy?
I am thinking about buying a 1996 Buick Century, and was wondering if it is a good car to buy. Do they have any common problems I should know about? The one I am looking at has a 3.1 liter engine with 68,000 miles. How long are they usually good for? Also, what do you think is a fair price for this car in good (not excellent) condition?

A: 12 yrs old ----2500-2800 dollars It is a fantastic car.Buy Now

Q: How would I find the right alternator for my 86 Buick Century. I understand that there are two different kinds
I'm in a position that requires me to replace my alternator in my 1986 Buick Century. As I found out, there are two different alternators for an 86 buick century, and I need to know which one I'd need to get. Is there a way to find out using your VIN?

A: go to an auto parts store with your car, or with the removed alternator. they can compare them to make sure they are same. they will also want to keep your old alternator to rebuild it. many years ago i had to replace my alternator. the guy at the auto parts store was a friend of mine. he put the alternator on a machine, tested it, disassembled it and replaced a diode, all in about 10 minutes for less than 5 bucks. this was for an 88 buick.

Q: How can I tell the difference between a 1994 Buick Century Custom and Special, or Limited?
I recently got a 1994 Buick Century from my brother and I'm trying to buy insurance. The insurance company wants me to specify whether it's a Custom, Special, or Limited. How can I tell the difference? The Owner's Manual doesn't say. I contacted Buick but they haven't reply. I searched for image online but they looked similar that I can't really tell which one mine is. I'm stuck. Any car experts out there? Please help me.

A: go to CARFAX.COM punch in the VIN and it should tell you for free.

Q: What type of timing belt does a 1986 Buick Century have?
Something is wrong with the timing belt in my 1986 Buick Century. My dad told me that if it's a metal chain, then it will be harder to fix, but if it's a regular belt then it will be much easier. So does a 1986 Buick Century have a Timing Chain or not?

A: if it has a 2.5, the engine doesn't have to be pulled to do the gears, a competent gm tech can do it in car

Q: 91 buick century battery drains and wont start, only jump off will work, wont start back without jumping off?
what is causing my 91 buick century car to drain my battery. you can jump it off and when you cut it off it wont start back. something is draining the battery. would you know what my problem is.

A: yes, your problem is more than likely just an old battery, or a battery that has been drained too many times. The solution is you need a new battery. If you cant afford a new battery, the other option is to buy sulfuric acid and distilled water. First shake the battery around real good to get any material in the battery loose. then pop the drain plugs and pour the old acid out of the battery. then refill the battery with a half and half mixture of acid and distilled water, then charge for a couple hours and see if it holds charge. Be very careful the acid will burn holes in your clothes and if on your skin long enough will do the same to your skin. It is not likely your alternator, because if you can jump start the car and remove the jumpers, and the car keeps running it means the alternator is producing enough power to run the car, but as soon as you turn it off you can not start it again, because the battery doesn't hold charge. If the car dies soon after disconnecting the jumpers, without you turning it off then it would be the alternator.

Q: How do you go about taking the dash and steering column out of a 1993 Buick Century?
My son and I need to replace the dash on my wife's 93 Buick Century and I am not sure how to go about it. We found a real nice one at a local salvage yard and they told us we could save A LOT of money if we could take it out ourselves, soo I need some expert advice on how to go about taking out the dash and steering column the easiest way possible. I have some knowledge of doing things like this. I just got done removing the entire interior of her car, like the seats and carpet. I even took out the headliner without much trouble. The reason I am going about all this, is, I have to change the color of the interior, because I needed to replace the front and back seats as they were not in the best of condition and I could not find any that was the same color as hers. But I did get a VERY good price on the seats, carpet, headliner back window carpet and side panels. All I have left now is the dash and steerng column! So please, someone out there, help me with some easy pointers! Thanks! I was really hoping more folks would help out with my delima! The Haynes book did help with the column but did not really help with the removal of the dash!...I was told that there is a lot of screws and such to remove...but not sure were they are located ON the dash! :(

A: Tackeling a dash is a major undertaking.. not to metion the steering column... you really must be a decent mechanic... 1st you are dealing with wire harnesses and speedo cables and mounting screws everywhere... but as you remove the dash take time to mark your wires where they go and reatach them in reverse order that you remove them... the first thing to remove is the steering coulmn.. as it will make removing thte dash easier... under the hood you will find a link attching the colum to your rack & pinion. there are four mounting boult under the dash that hold a saddle that supports the column.. it will be understandable as you go along. remove your insturment cluster after that and start undoing your wires under the dash and in the glove compartment.. again mark everything and note there postion... alot af common sense will go along way ..just take your time and you can do it..

Q: How much does it cost to have tune up done on 1995 Buick Century LTD, with a V6 engine?
My 1995 Buick Century LTD probably needs a tune up because it misfire when the RPM is high. Any idea how much it would cost me?

A: It may cost approx. $90. It also depends upon what the auto repair shop will do in the tune ups. Few auto repair shops include just spark plugs, oil change and fluid change and may charge more! Check www.prundo.com and you can download free coupons for oil change or engine tune ups

Q: How much does it cost to change an engine mount and a transmission mount on 1995 buick century, V6, 3.1L?
When should the engine mount and transmission be replaced on a 1995 Buick Century LTD, with a V6 engine (3.1L). Also, is one of the engine mount located on top of the engine and connected to the body of the car on top of the radiator? Also, much does it cost?

A: I can't give you an accurate number of how much they cost, and there is no recommended time of replacement. They are replaced on demand/failure. The ones secured over the rad (I call them "dog bones") fail quite frequently and are easy to change. The transmission mount is a little harder to do and is required very seldom. The worst is the one under the front of the engine near the main pulley. All these cost not much, just labor.

Q: Does anyone know where I can find a fuse box diagram anywhere for a 2001 Buick Century?
So, I left my lights on in my 2001 Buick Century Limited and the battery died. I jump started it and it should do fine since the battery is fairly new, however when the car started the clock said "loc". Now i can't fix the time and the radio does not work. I bought this as a used car so it came with no user manual. Does anyone know how to fix this? Or where to find a fuse box diagram of the car?

A: This is not a fuse problem. You will have to check your owners manual for a code to unlock the radio, or go to your dealer with the VIN, and they should be able to help you. Do not try to enter random numbers, some radios only allow so many tries before it is locked until a dealer services it.

Q: Is it my fuel sending unit on my buick century?
My gas gauge is all over the place. I just replaced the instrument cluster. Does that narrow the problem to the fuel sending unit, or could it be something else? 2001 buick century. Thanks

A: It can also be a loose connection anywhere between instrument cluster and fuel tank or a damaged wire anywhere between instrument cluster and fuel tank, or it can be a computer problem (unlikely but possible), or it can be the sending unit (most likely). To start trouble shooting, plug a known good sender unit into the wiring at the tank. If the gauge becomes steady then the problem is the sender. If the gauge is still flaky then it's the ground (like previous answer), wire, connector, or computer. It's also remotely possible that your new instrument panel is also bad - I've had this happen to me - my junk yard part had the same failure!
