Q: I have a 1989 Buick Reatta. Can I put a brand new engine in it? If so, what can I put in and about how much?
I would like to know what my options are when "Pimping my Ride" with my 1989 Buick Reatta. I would like it to be reliable and drive anywhere. Is it possible to put in a modern engine? If so, what kind and what size and about how much will it cost? I know nothing about cars and will have professionals do the work. Is rebuilding the engine a better option?
A: just get a stock replacement engine from a general motors dealership. then have them do the work. dollar for dollar, it's the best idea.
Q: Can you drive a '90 Buick Reatta if you bypass the Trans. Cooler? ?
My mother just recently bought a used '90 Buick Reatta from a friend of ours. The trans cooler went out, and they bypassed it and told us it would be ok to drive, for now. Now we have also heard from others that this will tear up or transmission. Is this true? How much do Trans Coolers usually run?
A: yes it will be ok....most coolers these days are just metal pipe work open to air from the fron of the car,...yes it will be ok.

Q: how do i change the fuel pump on 1989 buick reatta?
it is in the fuel tank itsa automatic 3.8 liter
A: I have done this job on other cars and have experience with Buicks. Based on my experience, you would have to empty the fuel tank, remove the tank, and then remove the fuel pump from through the top of the tank where it is mounted. The sender would be on the same assembly and you might as well replace it at this time so you don't have to take it all apart again next month. The senders aren't made to last forever either. A dealer would give you torque specifications for all of the fasteners so that you can tighten everything properly.
Q: problems with Buick Reatta?
Does any one know anything about what problems that the buick reatta has? like alt going out, head gaskets blowing all the time, random piston stoppage, etc..... Let me know cause i just might buy one soon. Thanks a lot for your facts and knowledge.
A: stop beating on it...and what the heck is piston stoppage...i have never heard this term and i have been workin on cars along time...the only thing i can think of would be engine knock (detonation)...for that particular phrase....head gaskets blowing all the time sounds like the engine head got warrped and who ever repaired (s) never check for the warrpage..wich would cause the head gaskets to keep blowing..give it a major tune up..or better yet get rid of it...its time to put it down...junk it..

I know there were only a small number in 1991.
A: There were about 2,132 convertibles made for '90, while production dropped big time in '91 to 305

Q: Buick Electric Failure while driving down the road?
The car is a 1990 Buick Reatta. The car will die while driving, Im talking about complete electrical system failure. No dash lights, everything is dead. Car could stay dead for couple min. up to couple days, then it will start like nothing has happened. Battery is not drained and alterantor is fine. Also cant check comp. for errors because it clears the system just like the battery cable had been pulled to clear it. Thanks for the info.
A: Sorry to hear about your vehicle. First things first. When you say driving, what are you ding and where are you? such as; on the highway, at a stop light, making a left hand turn, coming to a stop. Second, when you say dies , do you mean your driving, your cars "shuts off" and your stuck in the middle of the road? and when you say stays dead do you try to start it? does your radio come on? are your light on or are they dim? all these are very helpful in diagnosing the root cause of this concern. also was there any work done recently to the vehicle? if the car is running and it dies a few things could be the cause. one, not that common, your engine could be starving of fuel, fuel pumps, filters and injectors and throttle body could all cause a fuel starvation. two spark cuts out. I work for volvo and i see coils (devices that increase spark) on 98+ vehicles literally crack in certain areas and cause rough idles, choppy acceleration (stuttering while getting on a freeway) but third and most likely battery/ charging system (these are just three common flaws there are lots of other little things associated with the electronic fuel injection system and monitoring that could and may well be the cause). the way your vehicle works is the battery stores a charge and your vehicle draws from the charge what it needs. on start up its battery power until your alternator reaches a certain speed (or the computer tells it to turn on) that supplies the power to the vehicles electrical system. now that i know you have an understanding i can suggest what, giving the limited info i have, i would look for first. if there is no rough idle apparent when the vehicle is warm that suggests fuel probably is ok and so is spark. now if your alternator cannot keep filling the battery up with an electrical charge, your car could just plain turn off. now this could cause a slow cranking when trying to start the car again and it may not even start. but as to why it will come back to life after a few mins or few days is interesting. check connections at the battery because that will prevent the flow of electricity. make sure its clean of dirt and paint too. take a wire brush and clean it. also is there anything white or powder-like on the terminals? oxidation causes a poor connection. that can be cleaned with spray cleanser from auto parts stores or scrubbing with baking soda and water but thats my guess without having the car to test. please post what you find out about your car.

I have a 89 Buick Reatta with a bad K frame. This is an 'E' body car. I have access to a K frame from an 'H' body car. Will they interchange?

Q: Car roof upholstery sagging.?
The fabric on the roof of my friend's 1990 Buick Reatta is sagging, it hits her in the head and she doesn't like the way it looks. I suggested perhaps filling a syringle with glue and piercing the fabric to inject it then pushing to reattach. The surface above is metal so regular stapling would probably not suffice. Please advise.
A: That fabric is called the head liner. From what I have been told, glueing it won't work. Maybe a detail shop would be the place to go for help.
Q: Did all Buick Reattas have leather interiors? (1990 specifically)?
I am trying to find a sun visor clip. Have ordered twice thru ebay and I receive cloth visors and the clip doesn't fit. If all Reattas have leather interiors it would help me clarify what I am looking for with ebay. I think I am getting Riviera parts because the sellers are assuming that they will fit the Reatta.
A: On the 1990 buick reatta leather interiors came standard from the factory.This was on the coupe and convertible reatta for 1990.Best of luck.
