Q: how to fix casette player in a 1988 buick riviera?
I have a casette player in a 1988 buick riviera that needs to be fixed. I insert a casette tape and the computer screen doesnt play it....I press the play button on the computer screen and nothing happens. I just needed to know how to correct this problem...It is not because that i am inserting the tape incorrectly, I know that for a fact.

Does anyone know how to bypass the security chip on a 96 Buick Riviera? My moms car will not start...the security light is flashing for some reason and the key won't start the car. Someone said that the security system is preventing the key from starting the car and we will have to bypass the pass-key by clipping some wires and attaching them somewhere else. Any ideas?
A: Probably a broken wire to the VATS key switch, a common problem as they age due to extremely thin wires. A new key won't help, as it will have the SAME value as the one you have now. The 10 minute relearn does not apply here, VATS and PassLock are two different critters. Cutting or splicing anything is not a DIY solution for someone not familiar with the system. Have a locksmith take a look at it and discuss your options with you.

A: The answer is yes. This operation requires a few special tools and a lot of experience. Also if it has a tilt wheel then there are even more special tools and a very strong spring that can cause injury when installing.

Q: Problem with Passkey 11 passive theft-deterrent system on 1997 Buick riviera?
I have a 1997 Buick Riviera. Sometimes when I attempt to start the car, the security feature will not allow it to start. I have to sit and wait for the yellow "security" light to go off (about 3 minutes) in order to try it again.
I can't seem to figure out why this is occurring, and if there is anything to do to prevent it (other than replacing it). I have ordered a brand new key, eliminating a mechanics theory that it might be a dirty ignition key that causes the security feature to go off.
Any ideas?
Even after purchasing a new key, the security system still activates.
A: I had a 96 Pontiac with the same problem. There was a procedure in the manual that worked. I can't recall what it was, but definitely I found the solution in the manual.. You might want to double check your owner's manual, and/or and look on line for the Grand Prix manual. It's possible your mechanic is taking you for a ride on the this expensive key. Why can't your current key be cleaned with a little alcohol?
