Q: 1998 Cadillac Deville with idling and brake problems?
I have a 1998 Cadillac sedan deville that is idling high and low sporadically. It also feel;s like there is air in the brake lines or that maybe even the power brakes have failed at start up. Both of these problems happened at the exact same time. The RPMS are running high and low even in park. If I try and put the car in gear it takes off at a high rate of speed. What are your thoughts. I really appreciate your time. Thank you.

A: the power brakes have a vacuum hose going to the air inlet system to provide a vacuum for the power assist. Its probaby leaking and causing both your problems.

Q: Are Cadillac Deville Good On Gas And How Many Miles Does The Gas Last?
i'm trying to buy a cadillac deville (DHT) but i'm worried on the gas cause people are telling me to always use premium gas. anyway, on a 10 gallon gas tank full to empty is about 170 miles to 200 miles. how much would a full 18 gallon tank full go on miles until you refill it up with more gas?

A: i have a 1998 deville that gets 28 to 31 mpg on the highway and i only use premium fuel and it has a 20 gallon tank. this is the V8 northstar.

Q: What is wrong with the brakes on my 93 cadillac deville?
93 cadillac deville 160K miles, 4.9L V8 w/abs. I missed a turn and hit the brake kinda hard.the tires squeaked for about a second then the pedal sunk to the floor and was much weaker. The brake light is on (parking brake is off). Now to stop the pedal has to be pushed in quite a ways and are weaker. I looked a the brake fluid tank and it was low. So i added so dot3 fluid. the brake light went off for a while. the brakes still felt the same though. I drove around a little and the brake light came back on and the fluid in the tank is nearly back to where it was. I was going to take the front wheels off and inspect the brake and lines. any suggestions? what should I be looking for?

A: Couple of suggestions, one would be to get underneath and have some one pump brakes to check for leaks you might have to llok from front to back checking the line as you go.Also look around master cylinder and check the lines around that area MAKE SURE YOU BLOCK THE WHEELS TO KEEP IT FROM ROLLING.If yoy dont find any leaks you may have gotten air n your line if you know how to bleed the lines you might try this, these are a couple of things that I would try ,but you may have to take it to a mechanic.

Q: What type of oil and filter should I use in a 1990 Cadillac Deville?
I am trying to change the oil in a 1990 Cadillac Deville, and I am not sure what type of oil and oil filter I should use. If anybody has an answer for this, I would appreciate it a lot.

A: 10w30 oil will work just fine and as for the filter the parts man where you buy the filter at can help you there. just tell him/her what kind of car, the year, the model and what size engine you have.

Q: How to make exhaust louder on 05 Cadillac DeVille?
How do you make the exhaust louder on the 2005 Cadillac DeVille? Should I get exhaust tips, and what kind should I get?

A: none, that car should be driven for what it is,its not a light to light race car,its a luxury car and should be driven and kept as such,if you want something to make a lot of noise go out and get a camaro or firebird dude, don't mess up a caddy.is this a case of more money than brains?

Q: How much would it cost to replace the head gasket on a 96 Cadillac Deville?
Im looking at buying a 96 Cadillac Deville Sedan, but it needs a new head gasket. How much would it cost to replace that?

A: Mechanics would have to "tear into" the top of the motor to get to it. http://www.autozone.com/N,15100528//shopping/partTypeResultSet.htm The head gasket set itself is $219, but that would make for other gaskets to be replaced as well, and gives the mechanic a chance to check for other problems while the engine is open. Just what you've always wanted to hear, heh.. It will be costly; however, I can't give you an estimate as my experience only deals in the gaskets themselves. See if you can get the owner to offset the price of the vehicle by about $1000 to account for the repair. My other suggestion is DO NOT let him say, "If you buy it, we'll repair it for you." because in those instances they already know they're about to get rid of the car so the general consensus for the mechanic would be, "Why do I want to take my time on something that will be out of our hands after completion?" There are always other cars and most definitely other cadillacs that are always being placed on sale. Surely, many of them will have no costly repair in its possession. Consider waiting. Concerning motor replacement, that replacement will run for slightly less in my opinion, but will still be costly. You also have to take into consideration the MANY parts on another part placed in the vehicle; each that have a chance to be bad, especially with an owner who knows the vehicle is sold during the replacement. Also, you will never find a new motor to place in it because new motors aren't made for used cars. Best of luck!

Q: How many miles until a Cadillac Deville wears out?
I'm looking at a 2000 Cadillac Deville, but it has 240k miles on it. It is $4500

A: Pass on it unless you have a HUGE maintenance budget for that car. Nothing is cheap to work on with a Caddy. Nevermind that you have the Caddy price premium on any repair.

Q: What is needed 2 instal an aftermarket radio and subs in a 03 Cadillac Deville to keep steerin wheel ctrls ETC?
Vehicle - 2003 Cadillac Deville Radio - Jensen UV8 Phazelinear DVD/CD/Touch-screen, Fold out screen 2008 model There are so many different wiring harnesses to get in order to keep my steering wheel controls, door chimes, onstar, etc.. If you happen to know what I need please help. Thanks.

A: For the Onstar and door chimes, use a Metra GMOS-06 adapter module. To keep the steering wheel controls, look for a PAC SWI-X. You'll need to have a wireless remote control for the Jensen head unit in order to program the SWI-X.

Q: What would make my 1997 Cadillac DeVille steering wheel wobble when traveling at low and high speeds?
1197 Cadillac Deville Northstar The car is riing as if it has a flat and is also pulling to the left The steering wheel is shaking intensely

A: tire balance, if a wheel has thrown a weight it can casue this, but abnormal at all speeds bent rim bad stearring gear bad drag link tie rods alignment likely a bent rim jack the car up and spin each wheel see if one wobbles badly, but you will likely have to derive a way to get it up to speed to show in this manner, if wobbles only ay high speed you can assume a thrown weight, all speeds bent rim or a thrown wheel nut or broken wheel stud, loose nuts also can make the whole wheel slap back and forth bad wheel bearings inside the wheel, cracked internal wheel that the tire attaches to. bent front frame it is a easier to check for to the most expensive to repair, so start at what you can do youur self and look for, and go to the more difficult, it is hard to say simply buy a wobble fast and slow speed, so check the tires, wheels if ok remove them and spin the spindles if ok take them apart and check the internals for damage, the actual spindle can crack and cause sever wobble coming back through the brake shoes and effect the sterring wheel a whole lot if you think about it, but i have only see this twice in my life, but it happens ok

Q: Can you repair cracked heads on a 1998 Cadillac Deville, or do you absolutely have to replace them?
I have a 1998 Cadillac Deville that they tell me the heads are cracked. I want to know if those same heads can be repaired somehow or do I have to replace them with new/used heads. I cannot afford to replace the heads yet.

A: Has the motor been disassembled yet, or did they tell you that the heads were cracked just looking at the vehicle? You are not clear on that point. If they have the heads off and have found cracks in them, you need to replace them. If the mechanic has not taken the heads off yet, and is telling you they are cracked, be very careful. There is no way to inspect a head for cracks without removing it. It could be the head gasket, and not the head, needs replacement.

Q: What would cause antifreeze to get into my oil on 88 Cadillac Deville?
I bought a 88 Cadillac Deville on May 25, 2007. Engine size is 4.5 and has 94,784 miles on it. Two days ago it overheated on me. My son looked at it and said the radiator was real low. He filled it with mixed antifreeze. Yesterday it overheated again. My son looked at it and said the radiator was about 1/2 gallon low. He couldn't see that it was leaking anywhere. First thing he decided to do was flush the radiator because it looked real dirty. He couldn't get it to drain. He said there was sand, metal flakes or possibly radiator sealant in the bottom of it. THEN he looked at the oil and it was greenish brown. He said it was antifreeze in the oil. THEN he took off the valve cover and there was white thick stuff gooped up under it. I plan on taking it to a mechanic on Monday. I've got my fingers crossed but I think someone was trying to pull a fast one on me! Can anyone help me diagnose the problem? And does anyone know how Lemon Laws work? I would greatly appreciate any information!

A: Blown head gasket or cracked cylinder heads. You did get it checked by a mechanic BEFORE you bought it didn't you?
