Q: Chevrolet Avalanche???
is the chevrolet avalanche good for off-roading and snow conditions???? with the z71 off-road package

A: Define good... It will do just fine off road. Well, at least where 80% of the population would ever go off road. The front suspension (IFS) does not have a lot of suspension travel, and poor articulation. What that means is that it will be harder to keep a tire on the ground in uneven terrain (a tire in the air will not help propel the vehicle). The front axle shafts (CV shafts) are the weakest point, and if you break one, you're walkin home (the shaft also holds the hub assembly). But don't be afraid, they will hold up to more than most people would ever dream of doing. In snow they are great. I am very happy with the handling characteristics of my truck, but I believe that tires and vehicle weight are a larger factor than what the vehicle actually is. The Z71 doesn't help the truck's offroad capability much. The package includes heavier duty shocks, a front differential skid plate, a small transfer case skid plate, and a fuel tank skid plate. The G80 locking rear differential may or may not be included on the truck. So the skid plates help protect...

Q: I know the Chevrolet avalanche has that flat bed cover on it but can you take that cover off and leave it off?
I know the Chevrolet avalanche has that flat bed cover on it but can you take that flat bed cover off and leave it off? I don't recall ever seeing an avalanche on the road without that flat bed cover it comes with. Please provide a source if possible and if possible a picture of an avalanche without the cover possibly on the road without the cover or even a video if possible thanks.

A: Of course you can. My father has the first year of it. It comes off in sections. Just turn the handles and bingo. Off it comes. Not a permanant thing. Just an add-on. Kind of like a soft top on a Jeep. On and off whenever you want.

Q: How many MPG does a Chevrolet Avalanche 2500 gets?
There is a Chevrolet Avalanche 2500 with a 8.1 big block V8 engine. I really want to know how many miles a gallon it gets.

A: i have a gmc 1500 c3 with a 6.0 awd and i only get 15 mpg with it so u can only amagine what u will get with a 8.1 also check ur rearend gear ratio that makes a big difference

Q: Trying to consider getting my son a used chevrolet avalanche?
Is it a good sturdy vehicle? Also, what are we looking at gas mileage wise? I've heard it was underpowered and sluggish, is this true? Is the Z71 package worth it?

A: The avalanche is a wonderful choice for a truck/suv. It is nowhere near underpowered. It's pretty quick for it's size. And I would just go for the Z66 to save on gas because the Z71 is an off road package and people rarely take avalanche's off road anyway.

Q: How can i find out who won the chevrolet avalanche during the all- star game last night?
it was a online contest through fox sports net. I went there and there is nothing about it.

A: Google Michael Young

Q: How do i replace the automatic transmission fluid filter on my 2002 chevrolet avalanche?

A: At many auto parts stores you can buy a Haynes do-it-yourself manual for your model car, with step-by-step instructions, and basic explanations at the beginning of each chapter. If it is not in stock, you can order it online by searching on "auto repair manuals" on Yahoo search. In the front is a section on "Troubleshooting" that guides you step-by-step to find causes of most engine malfunctions based on the car's symptoms. Whether you do the work yourself or not, it helps you make informed decisions and not be taken advantage of, and to not feel so "in the dark." db667089 says: you can check http://www.alldatadiy.com. For about the same price as a Haynes or Chilton's repair manual, you can have online access (for a whole year) to model specific info for your particular vehicle. This is the same info that repair shops use. They have great wiring schematics/diagrams. Also, for about $15 for a one-month subscription, you can get the factory manual, downloadable (careful! Mine was about 500 pages!) or viewable, at http://eAutoRepair.com.

Q: Where can I find the schematic for a 2003 Chevrolet Avalanche tailgate?
I am replacing the tailgate handle.

A: I believe that once you remove the outer panel (that says "Chevrolet" on it) and the handle's bezel then it's pretty basic. There will be two rods attached to it that release the left and right latches. Just disconnect the rods before removing the old handle. If you still need a diagram call your local Chevy dealer's parts department and they can fax you an exploded view of the tailgate assembly.

Q: How much does it cost to have front shocks installed on a 2002 chevrolet avalanche?

A: If your front shocks are the factory bilstein shocks your looking at $175.00 parts and labor.Best of luck.

Q: How difficult a job is it to do brakes on a 03 chevrolet avalanche?
I have some automotive knowledge

A: Ahh, Avalanches are not hard to work on. Let me guess, the rear brakes are worn down. These are easy to fix though, remove the 2 bolts holding the caliper to the caliper mounting bracket. Remove the brake pads and compress the piston. If you live in the rust belt, you will probably be looking at replacing rotors as GMs have rotors that turn into rusted globs of steel. To get the rotors off, remove the 2 bolts holding the caliper bracket to the axle assy. Remove the retaining clips from the studs holding the rotor on the vehicle. Smack the rotor with a hammer to remove it. Clean the caliper mounting bracket where the pads slide with a wire brush and lube with brake grease. Make sure all hardware and slides move. Install the new rotor, caliper bracket, pads, and caliper. Test drive after tire installation.

Q: I would like to buy 4x4, but i wonder wich one is nicer the chevrolet avalanche or the cadillac escalade EXT? ?
I am thinking of buying a 2004 model 4X4, I like both cars the avalanch and escalad, but i wonder wich one drives nicer ? and has a comfortable ride?

A: cadillac for sure will be better... in ergonomics .. they share the same chassis and drivetrain components most likely

Q: Can dual exhaust stacks be placed on a Chevrolet Avalanche?

A: You can do whatever you want with a vehicle if you have either: A- the talent and expertise, or B- the money, or C- both. IMO - stacks on an Avalanche make about as much sense as a drag chute on a Mini.

Q: Why does the Chevrolet Avalanche have those flying buttresses (or sailpanels) connecting the cab and bed.?
Does it have to do with structural integrity or airflow management? What would happen if an owner removed them. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flying_buttress http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chevrolet_Avalanche

A: There is a structural member behind the plastic.

Q: What are the best spark plugs for a Chevrolet Avalanche with a 5.3 and a supercharger?

A: You need a set of colder spark plugs if you have a supercharger on it. Stay away from the platinum plugs since they are built to last long, but they are consider to be a high heat range plug, which is bad for any supercharged application. I would suggest some Denso Iridium spark plugs. The plug number is "IT20", this spark plug is made for your truck and is one heat range colder so it helps control the heat so you do not detonate. Iridium is a precious metal that has a melting point of 1,200F higher than platinum and it is able to conduct electricity better. Iridium plugs are 8 times stronger and 6 times harder than platinum. These plugs are better suited for performance and can still last up to 60,000 miles. I looked up the plug numbers for your truck so these should be the ones you need: Plug # IT20 Stock # 5326 Btw...these plugs are pre gapped so you do not have to re gap them. They gap these for force induction. AC also has some Iridium plugs however they are not as popular in the supercharger world. Basically just stick with any plug that is one heat range colder and are Iridium, Copper, or Silver base...and you will be okay.
