Q: How common and interchangeable are Ford parts?
I am living in Chile and I am in the process of buying a Ford Escape 2008 petrol 2.3. However, I will be moving to South Africa later this year, and I was planning to take the vehicle. I learned that Ford South Africa does not sell Ford Escape but sells instead Ford Territory and Ford Ranger. How common are the parts of Ford Escape with the other Ford ranges available in Africa and how easy will be to source parts?

A: It depends on the parts you are looking for. Any petrolium burning 2.3L Ford engine will interchange parts almost 100% based on the production run of the engine. If the engine was built in 2008 than almost any 2.3L from 2005-present should interchange parts very readily. suspension componants tend to differ from model to model so it would be difficult to find parts such as control arms and things of that nature. The brake system may have the same componants as the ranger or territory but you would have to research that in great detail and make sure the part numbers are EXACTLY the same. Hope that helps.

Q: How long should it take to install a Ford remote start on a Ford Fusion?
Assume that a Ford dealer is doing the installation.

A: It takes about 1 1/2 hrs and the dealers contract the work to a Ford approved company; this will keep the vehicle under warranty. That's an interesting question and it sounds like you might have had a problem with the dealer. If you have a direct question, you could email me

Q: When will start Ford the production of the New Fiesta in America?
I mean, with the Yaris, the Jazz, the Tiida, the Aveo, the Accent and the rest of the toy cars in the streets... Ford is taking too long to bring back the Fiesta! When will be out in the streets this specimen?

A: They'll be importing it from Europe, they won't be building it here.

Q: How can I make a Ford Escort fuel flexible?
I have a '98 Ford Escort and the engine's shot. We're looking at possiblity of replacing the engine. Since the new engine would be out in the open and everything before putting it in, how difficult would it be to make the new engine fuel flexible before installing it? How expensive would it be to do this and where can I find out information on how?

A: Ethanol gives you significantly worse gas mileage than regular gas. It's not worth it.

Q: When changing tie rods on a ford escort should I change both inner and outer?
I have a 1995 ford escort 1.9 liter recently I was in for an oil change and it was recommended that I change my tie rods. Are they talking about the outer tie rods or should I change both inner and outer and how much time and/or tools would I need to them myself.

A: take it to somebody who does alignments and have them check it, not a chain store like midas or jiffy lube. if you do it yourself chances are the steering wheel will be way crooked and the tires will wear fast because of the adjustment. most likely just the outers will need to be done, i dont change inners i replace the rack&pinion assy. and thats expensive. but the alignment has to be done right away after the tie rod ends are replaced. also the lower ball joints on those cars go bad often, have them checked as well.

Q: Is it possible to convert a Ford Expedition to manual shift?
I've noticed that the Ford F-150 resembles the Expedition and wondered if anyone has tried taking a manual shift conversion to this vehicle. They did manufacture the F-150 as manual shift at one time.

A: Yes it is possible, provided it is a 4.6L Expedition (the 5.4L on an F-150 was never offered with a manual transmission). It WILL be costly though. You would require the transmission, transfer case, clutch and brake pedal assemblies, the shifter itself, the hydraulic system for the clutch, the PCM, as well as some additional wiring, at the very least. My question would be WHY you would want to convert this to a manual transmission? The search for all the parts needed will NOT be easy, since there weren't too many V8 F-150s sold with a manual transmission. Hope this helps.

Q: Can a 1987 Ford Ranger transmission fit in a 1994 Ford Ranger pick up?
I am thinking about buying a transmission for my truck, but the transmission I am going to buy is coming out of a 1987 Ford Ranger manual transmission. I have a 1994 Ford Ranger that is also manual. Are they both the same? Or being that it is older, is there much difference? Actually, I called a transmission shop today and they told me that I couldn't use an 87 transmission for a 94 because of the electrical differences... Thank you anyway!

A: if they are both 4 speeds you should be fine they ran the same trans's for many years. an easy way to find out for sure is call discount / or autozone, ask for prices for the clutches for each of those years when they give you the price get the part # on each if the part# is the same on each you are good to go , you can probably do it yourself online

Q: What can i do about my Ford Escort Alternator malfunction?
About 4 weeks ago, I bought a 1999 Ford Escort that was in great shape, and it has been great on mileage and nning in general. All of sudden, over the last couple of days, my car has been stopping wheniever i hit the brake, and the battery signal lights up, and i understand this as the battery life being drained. I would like to know, is there anything that I can do to make my alternator function better? Am i not allowed to drive it until i get it replaced? If i can drive it, tips on how to drive safe with it? Thanks a lot.

A: WHEN EVER YOU APPLY BRAKE IT STOPS CALL YOUR MECHANIC TO CHECK WHETHER ALL THE SPARK PLUGS ARE FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. IF THERE IS ANY OIL ON THEM THE IGNITION WILL BE INCOMPLETE THERBY RESULTING IN LESS POWER AND CONSISTENCY IN POWER DELIVERY IF IT IS OK CHECK IF THE CARBON BRUSHES OF THE DYNAMO ARE OK IT NEEDS TO BE FEQUENTLY REPLACED AND IF IT IS NOT OK ELECTRICITY GENERATED WILL NOT BE PASSED IN THE CIRCUITS THE CONNECTIONS ARE NOT LOOSE. AND ALSO CHECK IF THE FUSE BOX IS OK N IN SHAPE IF ALL THESE STEPS DO NOT PROVE TO BE A REMEDY DO WHAT YOUR MECHANIC SAYS BUT BE SURE TO CHECK IT STEP BY STEP BEFORE DOING ANY MAJOR WORK FOR THE MECHANIC MAY NOT BE THAT CAREFUL. USUALLY THE MECHANICS DO NOT TELL US ABOUT THE MINOR BODY WORKS THEY JUST SAY US TO CHANGE THE PARTS WHICH MAY BE REUSED IF TRIED TO BUT DONT SAY THAT IN FRONT OF ANYONE FOR U HAVE TO GET UR WORK DONE PROPERLY

Q: Where are the Ford modeling agencies located and do they take open calls?
I'm already a model, but I want to possibly sign up with Ford, yet I don't know where their agencies are based, I know there are possibly many locations. Could someone please give me some information about this and Ford's history? Thank you. Palemale, thanks for the address, however i'm kind of confused by your statement.. "If you are already a model, as you say you are, you should already know the history of Ford, as Ford is the #1 modeling agency in the world." What is that supposed to mean exactly, honey?

A: New York City Ford Models 111 Fifth Avenue, 9th Floor New York, NY 10003 (between 18th & 19th Streets) (212) 219-6500 The hours open are Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 6:30pm If you are already a model, as you say you are, you should already know the history of Ford, as Ford is the #1 modeling agency in the world.

Q: 2002 Ford Escape hesitates to start every great once in a while, any guesses what it might be?
Every great once in a while -- like once every couple of months or so, my '02 Ford Escape doesn't want to turn over. When it happens I have to hold the key on and let it crank for 30 seconds or so and then it will turn over. One of my guesses is, it might be doing this after sitting in direct sun for several hours, but I'm not sure. Is there anything that Escape's are notorious for, that might be causing this? Any speculations what it might be? I know I should take it to a garage -- but since it happens so sporadically I forget about it -- and more than likely the garage won't be able to duplicate the problem.

A: Try this... Turn the key to the "ON" position....wait 30 seconds...then fire it up.... Fuel injection is a high fuel pressure system. Somehow after the vehicle sits a while the fuel system will lose pressure causing the motor to crank longer to build up the necessary pressure to deliver adequate fuel to the motor. Turning on the key also turns on the electric fuel pump in your gas tank creating the necessary pressure. It should fire up much quicker! Try it...... Also getting the fuel filter changed wouldn't hurt anything either! Good Luck!
