Q: Where can I get a double DIN dash kit for a 85 Pontiac Fiero?
I plan to get a Pontiac Fiero and I plan to upgrade it it to. I will try to provide details if anyone needs them. I am also willing to get a dash cover to fit a double DIN device. Also, I plan to install this into it http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/v3/pg/product/details/0,,2076_310069681_369264980,00.html and if there is any way to put in the dash without converting to double DIN than thats fine too.

A: Nowhere. They don't exist. Why? Because the Fiero radio cavity wasn't Double-DIN height. How can a kit possibly increase the size of the opening in the dash? You'd have to cut and customize, assuming you have the room. A 1987 Toyota MR2 I once did for sound competitions had only a single-DIN opening, but we managed to fit two and a half DINs into it (Cassette/Tuner, CD player, and 1/2-DIN EQ). This was done by removing the ash tray below the radio, purchasing an additional radio bezel from a dealer, cutting off the bottom of the original and the top of the new bezel, bonding them together and covering them in leather. A lot of work.

Q: Can anyone find some actual consumer reports on the 1987 Pontiac Fiero?
I can't find any consumer reports on a 1987 Pontiac Fiero, and I really want to get some basica info, like MPG, how easy things are to fix, reliability, etc. If you could find me some resources, that would be great. Or if you have personal experience, or know about these cars, let me know! Thanks

A: I have an 87 GT. A lot of people like to trash talk them, but they aren't junk. Keep in mind it's 21 years old now so it will most likely have some problems. Like every other car, they will last a long time with proper maintenance. They share a lot of parts with other GM vehicles. Repairs are really no more difficult than with any other car. As far as MPG, that really depends on what motor it has and what transmission it has. They had either a 2.5L 4 cylinder or a 2.8L 6 cylinder. MPG can range from about 16-17 in town to about 40 on the highway.

Q: How to change a clutch in a 1985 pontiac fiero?
do i have to pull the motor or drop the cradle to change the clutch on my 1985 pontiac fiero gt 4-speed.....

A: Drop the cradle, have fun, they are a nightmare to do.

Q: What would be necessary to put a bench seat in a Pontiac Fiero?
Don't actually have a Fiero but am considering getting one, however I'd love to install a bench seat, similiar the one in an 80's El camino. What would be necessary to make this happen?

A: Cant be done without major MAJOR mods. The tunnel in the Fiero (like others noted) houses... A/C lines from pump to condensor, vacuum lines for vac-assisted brakes, shifter mechanism and cables, ECU, and most major the FUEL TANK!

Q: I have a problem with the automatic transmission on my 87 Pontiac Fiero?
I have an 87 Fiero and when I get the vehicle up to cruising speed it will constantly fluctuate between 2nd and 3rd like it's in between gears. What are the posibilities that could cause this? 'Twas a vaccum leak. A line had come off of the evap canister. Thanks for the help!

A: Possible vacuum hose leak to map sensor, trans modulator, low on trans fluid.

Q: What kind of mileage does a Pontiac Fiero get with a V8 in it?
I have a 1987 Fiero with a 5-speed. I'm considering putting a Cadillac North Star engine in it, but if that drops me down below 20 mpg in mixed driving, I think I'll pass. Anybody who has done this know about what it gets?

A: Ok, don't listen to don r. He doesn't know much about cars, and even less about the Fiero. The Northstar will easily get 25 in a full size Caddy on the highway, and close to 20 in town. In the Fiero, you have more than a 1000lb weight advantage than the Caddy, plus you have a manual transmission. Both of those will contribute to better mpg. You could easily get 20 around town with that combination. The biggest issue you will have with mpg is keeping your foot off the fun pedal. That motor will make the Fiero a quick little car. And to correct don r's statement, the 4 cylinder Fieros had the fire issue, and it was limited to the 84 models. The Fiero caught a lot of bad press from the very few that caught fire. The fire was actually caused by owner neglect, not cooling issues. The aluminum Northstar engine will dissipate heat a lot better than the iron v6 and 4 cylinder engines originally offered in the Fiero. Have fun with it.

Q: stock pontiac fiero, how much does it weigh?
A stock pontiac fiero, first and second generations. What would be the curb weight of one of these cars? Please specify if you can what transmission/engine/body style (or year range) you have a weight for. Most interested in the weight of a manual transmission (v6 AND I4 engines) of 1988.

A: Average 2590 with 4cylinder 2740 lbs with V6

Q: How can I drop a Chevy 350 into a 1987 Pontiac Fiero?
Any parts that are required? I have a place where I can get an engin(Ebay) for pretty cheap, but what about a trani? Can I use any one? Also, if the Fiero that I get is an automatic, how can I convert that to a standard?

A: http://www.v8archie.com

Q: I have a 1984 Pontiac fiero, How can I bypass the ignition to start car?
the battery is new and the starter is good, still will not start, no power at all to gauges or idiot lights. already put new cables on the battery too.

A: i don't know but it sounds like you have more than ignition problem start with the fuses before you get into tring to bypass and i don't know about 84 fiero having a computer if it does that might be it

Q: I have a 1986 pontiac Fiero which which i want to restore, how much time/money would it take?
I want to restore it but im not sure if i should, is there anything i should look for on the vehicle before i make an attempt to restore it? It is a 1986 2m4 5 speed model.

A: Make sure the body is sound. Most of the mechanical work is easy to do and with in the skills of a person that can learn. But body work is not. The cost for parts will run (most likely) 7 to 10 thousand dollars. This comes from finding the saying true that it will cost twice as much as you plan for it too. I also will pass on advice that I ignored, just find one that is already done (it is cheaper).

Q: How fast can a clutch in a pontiac fiero "burn out"? I drove from denver to co springs, difficult shifter!
No problem with the brakes or clutch, just hard to shift the gears with the handle.

A: It depends how you drive... how many miles there have been... any previous owners use... many factors... If it's hard to shift into gears with the stickshift, then the problem may not be directly related to the clutch. Would recommend just getting it checked out by someone you can count on.

Q: Is a 1986 Pontiac Fiero Se a good car?
I am truly obsessed with this car. I have it on my mind day and night, at work, and even in the restroom. I want to purchase one. Can anyone give me any details on the good and bad features of this Pontiac? Any owners who would like to comment about it? Another question I have is how much will this car add to my insurance? I am 19 yrs old, male, and this will be my first ride. Thanks!

A: Don't listen to the people that say they are unsafe and horrible cars. They aren't. The Fiero is actually a very safe and very strong car due to the space frame. Unless neglected and broken, they don't have cooling issues either. The fire issue that everyone likes to talk about was limited to the early 4 cylinder models. And 86 won't have any problem. As far as insurance goes, I'm a young driver as well and the insurance on the Fiero was quite a bit cheaper than our other cars. And mine is a GT. Since they share parts with other GM vehicles they are fairly inexpensive to fix. There are no real bad features of the car. A lot of what people like to talk about is the bad press that the 84's got. As far as the good goes: you'll understand as soon as you drive it. They handle very well, and while they aren't fast by today's standards, the V6 is not slow either. And if you feel the performance is lacking, there are several options for engine swaps that will make the car faster than just about everything you'll see on the street. In the end, don't make your decision based on the people that have nothing positive to say about it. Just about everything you will ever need to know about the car can be found here: http://www.fiero.nl/

Q: would headlight motors from an 88 pontiac fiero formula work in a 95 Pontiac Firebird?
.

A: F**K!

Q: How much is my 1988 Pontiac Fiero Formula worth?
i have heard a lot of different things. it is in really good shape with only 104000 miles on it.

A: There are a bunch of places to check car prices on the Internet. NADA guides is one - but since they are owned by the car dealers association I never recommend them. KBB is another. Driverside.com is a new site and they have some cool data showing price based on mileage.

Q: I got a Pontiac Fiero, and it is the sweetest thing ever! What is others opinions about the Fiero?
I am asking this because it seems to be the car that you either love or hate. Me, I love them. Do you like Fieros or not like fieros? What do you like/dislike about them?

A: The fire problem was the first year only. The 4 cyl was shipped from the factory a quart low on oil, plus it got oil starved in the corners. Very few Fieros caught on fire, and it was mainly caused by their owners being retarded and not checking the oil level. Today, a car with a mid engine v6, 5 speed manual, rear wheel drive, and exotic looks would go for a lot of money. Fieros are sweet cars that can be made to out handle almost anything, and can be made quick too. I'd love to get one, but I already have a 2 seater.
