Q: Pontiac Solstice?
Ok I've been planning on getting a 2007 Pontiac Solstice.
The only thing is I can only afford the normal 07 not the GXP Version....
So I was wondering *perferablly people who know alot or have one* If it's not worth getting it if it's not A GXP???
( Also some info on them maybe & key differnces would be nice)
Also I'd just have it for driving around places, not racing and all that so The Extra HP in the gxp really isnt a big deal to me.
A: The price difference between the Solstice and the GXP is only about $2K, apples to apples. Interestingly, the GXP actually gets better fuel mileage.
Because it is rarer, the GXP will be worth more down the road and is therefore the better buy. But if you can only afford the Solstice, it is still the #1 rated car as far as resale value in its class. It doesn't have a ton of power, but it is still respectable and more power than any of it's competitors. It also has a bit more weight, so if you're planning on racing a Miata you'd better be the superior driver.
There are some visual differences on the GXP, but unless you're in tune to them you may never notice. Over all, I think the Solstice is a cool car and wouldn't mind having one myself. But with all my GTOs, there's no room in the garage...
Edit: To PJ Mick below: Solstice is beating the crap out of Mazda at autocross events all over the country, enough that Mazda owners have been trying to get them out of their class. Mazda MX5 trunk volume is 5.3 cubic feet, Solstice is 5.4. Solstice has a better warranty than Mazda and better reliability ratings, and Skye is the same car as the Solstice. Therefore all of your recommendations are off base.

A: Your Pontiac will never go that fast. 300km/h is 186 mph.
Your car has no electronic limiter to begin with. It's limited by power. The top speed now is 140mph. Your car has, what, 260 HP? You will need to double the horsepower, change the wheels and tires, upgrade the brakes, possible aerodynamic improvements.. etc. With the money you would have spent making your car go that fast, you could have bought a car that will go that fast from the factory.

If I want a 2008 Pontiac Solstice Convertible fully loaded which would come to about $24,000 and I have over 720 credit and put $2,500 down and I want to lease it for 3 years %0 APR. The lease number is determined by a few things.
1. The sticker price.
2. Your negotiated sales price.
3. The money factor (the interest rate used in leasing) and
4. the residaul for the car at the end of the lease.
Also, it will change based on terms (12\24\36 months)
Never put money down on al ease and never lease beyond the warranty!

A: There are aftermarket companies out there who offer the hard top, GM does not. But they are talking about a sport coupe model for 2009...

A: yeah you can call it a sports car it does quailify for certian motor sports events which is the definition of a sports car although it is convertible. i dont think it was in the fast and the furious movies at all

Q: what are real names for these parts? where to buy used parts for pontiac solstice?
in need real names for these parts,
1. pillar that goes from floor to ceiling by the door, and the step right under the door the door (metal).
2. the part that is right in front of windshild and wipers come out of it, has vents on it.
3. piece of metal that comes out of the convetible roof to lock into the windshield frame.

A: The pillar is just that. The one between the windshield and door is called the A pillar. on a sedan the middle one would be the B pillar and the farthest back the C pillar.
Q: Why does the Pontiac Solstice only have a 4 Cylinder? And why does it weigh so much?
While 0-60 in 7 seconds for a 4 cylinder is good, for a Sports car, thats a horrible time. Sure they fixed this up with GXP, but that's not the point, GM ruined a sports car with a 4 cylinder engine, just like they did with some firebirds in the early 80's.
Pontiac has a good 3.5 liter V6 that they use in the G6, which actually gets the same gas milage, but produces 224 HP. With this engine in the Solstice (which weighs 500 lbs less) could get great 0-60 time
And why does the Solstice/Sky weight so much, a Kia Spectra, a 4 door sedan (with many standard features, which add alot of weight) only weighs a 100lbs more, and boasts, 2 more seats, and 2 more automatic doors, and a good sized trunk. My only guess is that the Solstice/Sky are weighed down to increase stability and manuvering.
I'm not bashing the Solstice, I really do like the car, but the standard model, I'm just realizing is kind of disapointing
A: the solstice is a new model, give GM time to refine it, you will see a 6 in it shortly and down the road a V8 is not out of the question, there is already a co. in Calif. that will put in the Z06 engine and drivetrain in it for another $30,000.

A: A great load cheaper than this years model. They are desperate to sell cars now more than ever. The collapse of the US credit market will make them even more eager to sell for less as far fewer can buy. Going south will drop it traumatically. (two years or older is tariff free under NAFTA) GM is not king of the auto world anymore and want to claim their crown again. Go shopping and haggle as most dealerships are just dieing to sell them as the sales figures are way down this year, with a back log of them sitting around at the factory yards, reflecting that. Figure on what you realistically want to pay and then haggle until you get it. Look for a dealership with lots of cars on the lot. The more the cars the more urgent they need to move them.
As I see your asking about a 2006 model but fail to state mileage other than high, I will attempt to give some help. A 2006 model loaded with everything with around 20,000miles or 32,000Km should not be over $16,000.00 US or CAN. If it is move on, as there are lots on Ebay and Auto Trader that that are that right now. A new one is like 43,000.00 and up. Big price drop.

I wanted to rent a Pontiac Solsitce for the weekend and I can't seem to find a car rental place that rents them in Toronto. Does anyone know where to rent one for the weekend?
A: I don't know but want to help, and give a clue, leads to another clue or contact, and so on.

If they don't help, try Hawley in Mississauga.

I have never purchased a Pontiac. What is your take on the dealership service? Do you have any driving experiences that would be good to know? How are the stock tires and what are they? Is this car a better car to live with over a Mazda Mx5, tell me something instead of greater horsepower, like fit and finish. Please inform.
