Q: Pontiac Vibe?
I commute to work in the morning, about 25 miles from where I live in Western NC. I commute up a steep hill to my workplace. I am concerned that snow may be a factor, but not enough to worry about getting a AWD or 4x4. Pontiac Vibe is a good vehicle, with adaquate acceleration and powere for a 4-cylinder engine (I hear). But is it strong enough to handle a 30 minute ride up a mountainside highway with is graded at about...8%. would this 4-cylinder gas saver survive this trek? or should I find a 6 cylinder?

A: I own a Vibe (since 2003) and it's pretty good on hills. When I go through the "Grapevine" in California I have to keep my foot on the peddle a bit, but overall I've always averaged between 27 and 30 MPG in it. I'm a bit of a leadfoot. It accelerates nicely at stoplights and so far I haven't had any engine issues with it. Then again, it only has 55,000 miles on it. You might want to consider the new G6 or Malibu with the v6 (same engine, different bodies) if you're gonna be pushing the car up a hill every day. It's a slightly stronger engine and you really only lose about 2 MPG overall. Plus they ride a little nicer and quieter. One thing I notice with my Vibe is over time I've picked up some road noise I don't like. Hope this helps!

Q: How can I find a replacement door handle for my 2005 Pontiac Vibe?
I damaged the driver side rear door handle (exterior, black) of my 2005 Pontiac Vibe. I need to find a replacement part and figure out how to repair it. The part does not seem readily available on the internet. Does anyone have any advice?

A: These sites should help. Also try going to a junk yard. Your car is fairly new so they might not have parts but its worth a try and it'd be a whole lot cheaper. http://www.thecarpartwarehouse.com/?gclid=CMPlvdKBmZgCFRxNagodGhYSnA http://www.partstrain.com/ShopByDepartment/Door_Handle/PONTIAC http://www.automotix.net/partshotline-pontiac-vibe-requests.html ALso try going to a local pontiac dealer. Most places always have spare parts around. Good Luck

Q: Where to find a factory ski rack for a 2006 Pontiac vibe?
Hi! We're trying to find a ski rack for our 2006 Pontiac vibe, but our dealerships say that they are no longer available. I've looked on many websites, but can only find aftermarket! Anyone know how to find one that's not aftermarket or how to contact Pontiac directly? We've already tried Ebay.

A: Try www.car-part.com has hundreds of salvage yard and inventory across the U.S. and Canada with prices included. Easy to pick your vehicle and part and takes only a couple of minutes to go through. Also sorts them by price.

Q: Thinking about upgrading my Pontiac Vibe to a bigger AWD vehicle, any suggestions?
With a baby & all the things that go with us on a trip...I'm slowly out growning my Pontiac Vibe, which I love very much. I need something bigger. I have been looking at the Buick Rendevous. I definitly need AWD or 4wd. With gas as crazy as it is I'd like something not so bad on gas mileage. Any suggestions?

A: Pontiac has a an AWD crossover call the "Torrent", you will lose some MPG but it will not burn as much as a Envoy (Trailblazer). You might look at seeing what you can do in the Vibe to maximize your space. We love our Vibe also. I think they are a great vehicle....Good Luck!

Q: What do you think of the Pontiac Vibe?
I am looking into potentially buying a Pontiac Vibe. Most likely between the 2005 -2008 models. I've read a lot of reviews but would love to hear more. Is it a comfortable car? What are the problems you've had with it? Is it easy to drive? Do you feel safe in it? I'm a relatively new driver. Any personal experience you have will be very helpful, and any suggestions to other cars that may work well would be great too :). Please and thank you :]

A: The Vibe is just a rebadged Toyota. So basically, you get the excellent technical engineering of a Toyota, and the completely worthless customer service of Pontiac. It gets a decent amount of MPG, but at a heavy cost - no power. If you're in a bind, and expect this vehicle to rescue you, it won't happen. Plus, given a few minutes of research, it appears that the Vibe drops in value about $1500-$2000 each year. So, a reasonable $13000 2008 model, will be worth $9000 or so, in 2 years. Basically, if you get it, be prepared to take a triumphant loss on your investment, should you ever need to sell it. And God forbid you choose to finance it. But hopefully you're not that stupid.

Q: Why do some prefer the Pontiac Vibe over the Toyota Matrix?
I understand that the Pontiac Vibe and the Toyota Matrix are similar cars, but why do some prefer the Pontiac Vibe, since it's an American car, and less reliable?

A: Some just don't CARE about anything but what a car LOOKS like when they buy. These people usually change cars every year or two, and don't concern themselves with petty things like interest rates, reliability records, price etc.

Q: What do think of the Pontiac Vibe?
I own a Pontiac Vibe and love the car for its great gas mileage and other things. Some of my friends have told me that they always thought they were a piece of crap and broke down all the time. So I was just wondering what people thought.

A: I think you are experiencing what I've been fighting for a while. Your experience is you have a good car. Why do others think it isn't? Which of you might know the real answer? I guess what I am saying is people are quick to spout off opinions but don't often back them up with facts (or even think them through in the first place). I hear it all the time - American cars suck, import cars never break or require repair. I can tell you that I see imports in my shop, and they can't be the only ones having trouble. BTW, I read through that rather lengthy post up there, and wanted to clarify something... "The point is that although GM still has some catching up to do to compete with Honda, Toyota and the German auto manufactures " The FACT is GM topped all european manufacturers in initial quality last year, and were statisticly in a dead heat with the top Japanese manufacturers. In fact, last summer GM beat both Toyota and Honda. It seems to me there is a perception that doesn't match reality, and even so it is repeated and repeated. Eventually people just accept it as fact and don't bother checking for themselves. I mean how can you argue that american cars are crap when you had one and, for example, it needed brakes every 25,000 miles? The missing piece to me is when you replaced your american car with a japanese one, didn't you have the same issue? OK, coming down off the soapbox for today. But one last point. Some have said you have a good car because it has Toyota under the hood. I'm saying you have a good car because you have GM wrapped around the Toyota under the hood. Congrats on having a car you like. Stop listening to people who know not!

Q: Pontiac Vibe: renting this car for 5 people for spring break?
I'm about to rent a pontiac vibe for 5 college kids for a spring break road trip that will last about 20 hours in the car. Does anyone own a pontiac vibe and think that this car is large enough for the 5 of them? Granted, these are college kids on a spring break. They don't need anything too fancy! Let me know what you guys think. Thanks!

A: Get a bigger car the vibe will seat 5 but they will not be happy. Get an impala or other large car.

Q: I have a 2005 Pontiac Vibe that is taking a long time for the heat to warm up.?
I have a 2005 Pontiac Vibe that is taking almost 25 minutes for the heat to warm up. I have the air set to circulate so it is not pulling in any outside air. What could cause the heat to not be as intense as it once was?

A: Your thermostat could be not working right opening to soon or stuck open.Or your heater core could be becoming plugged.Does the car have a temp gauge if so watch that on start up .If the temp comes up slowly then the t stat could be stuck open. If it comes up normally then I suspect that the core is plugging up. Good luck hope I helped GM tech for 20 Years

Q: whats that song from the pontiac vibe commercial?
I can't seem to find this song anywhere ! its the commercial of pontiac vibe where theres this chick rolling around in a black pontiac truck and she checks a box that says ski and surf on the same day... dyou know what im talking about?? oh i already checked on youtube and googled it and- nothing :S

A: Are the lyrics - yeah yeah yeah yeah, come on come on outside, it's beautiful tonight? If so Pontiac is keeping the artist and song under wraps for now.

Q: Planning to purchasing a Pontiac Vibe today, what do you think?
After work I am going to my local dealership. I plan to buy a Pontiac Vibe. The test drive went very well, but that's only 15 minutes of driving a vehicle that I plan to have for a long time. What are your reviews on the Vibe? Likes? Dislikes? Personal experiences? Thank you :) I'm appreciating everyone's input so far. But jareihart.... dude. Chill.

A: If you like the look, go for it. a friend of mine has one. He loves it. I can not stand the site of it. I'm also 6'6 and have a difficult time fitting in the front seat. I almost have to have the seat back reclined at a 15 degree angle to keep my head from becoming part of the top. thats with the seat all the way back. It has something left to be desired for front leg room for people over 5'10. personal comments. if you like the look and feel of it buy it. After all it's your car, not mine.

Q: Transmission Fluid in Pontiac Vibe continually dirty?
I just bought a 2003 Pontiac Vibe with under 60, 000 miles on it. The person that I bought the car from showed me documentation that the oil, air filter and transmission fluid had all been changed in August. I just took the car in to get another oil change and they said my transmission fluid was dirty. They even showed me it as it was being pumped out and comparatively it looked pretty dirty next to what was being pumped in. How can the transmission fluid get dirty in less than 3 months and very little mileage put on in that interval? Did the first guy not do his job? The air filter apparently also needs to be changed again. What could explain this?

A: Either the guy didn't do the job, got conned himself, or just had the fluid drained and not a full fluid exchange like you got. A fuild drain only replaces about 10% of the AT fluid. The mechanic drains the transmission pan and replaces/cleans the filter. There's still a lot of fluid in the transmission inner workings and even more in the torque convertor. SO, if you mix 10% clean fluid with 90% dirty fluid you would just end up with slightly cleaner ATF. It's always best to have a full ATF exchange. The price generally runs in the low 100s.

Q: Who knows how to reprogram a Pontiac Vibe Radio?
It just needs to be reprogrammed. When I called Pontiac, they want money to do it. For Mercedes, it is free. They give you the code when you prove you are the Owner.

A: what do you mean programmed. is the radio locked? if so you need to get code from radio and call delco with a dealer code and get an unlock code. if you want to get radio programmed with updated software you need a scan tool called a tech 2, also at a dealership
